I have taken some tests and found out that I have high tendency of anxiety disorder. I also assume that I have depression because I show some clear signs of it. well, I've been observing many abnormal things in me since childhood, like I always fantasize and I act out my fantasies. I also find it very, very hard to hold one single thought for a time. I am also weird, and very shy in public. I have low self-esteem.
This might all be because I experienced some traumatic events and had also been abused verbally and physically in the past. Some people also took advantage of my gullibility as a child before, if you get what I mean... and last year, I learned that my grown-up mother is not my biological mother. I got away from our house for a while because my father hurt me, but I also went back after applying for a job. I got hired but I messed up!!! eventually I had to quit the job..
So it is very possible that all my experiences worsen or triggered my depression and anxiety. My intention is not to be pitied, but to get some advise. do you think I can get better from this god-knows-what by meditation and spirituality? I have heard that some meditations are used as an alternative to psychotherapy, but still I have no assurance that this will work out b'cuz i've been trying meditation for some time now but i still see no visible effect. I'm already 18, and I'm in the philippines.

I think you would benefit from regarding yourself and working inward. It might be a very hard task and big to grasp, and no "effects" are likely to be seen anytime soon. It takes a long time, and best is not to stress it. But by letting go, you receive results - by trying to receive results you end up getting none.
Something that you could try;
When you play around in the present, feeling whatever there is to feel, and hearing whatever there is to hear and while the breath is going in and out with your hands in your lap or on your knees.
Whenever you reach that place where you feel fully aware, where even the slightest sound is there but not objectified, when you feel exactly how your body is - try to press your thumbs together or pressing one thumb into the palm of the other (whatever feels most comfortable) you create a linkage between that action and that state of consciousness.
And keep doing that every time you get to that point of total presence. Eventually you might be able to just do that action that you've chosen in order to get into that state again. The mind stores the linkage in the subconscious.
This technique is used by a lot of sportsmen etc. in order to tune in for what they are about to go through and to get a set of mind before a competition and I bet that you could use it as well, I think you should try it.

This is very helpful. Thank you for sharing thing. Not only me will benefit from this.
In a short answer...Yes! Meditation can help in so many ways at each level of development that if there is anything worth doing it is clearing your mind. As a fellow anxiety/depression sufferer I have found no medication that can match the power of a strong, balanced mind. The ability to perceive things as they are, not as they appear, is an invaluable tool in overcoming ones struggles. Keep at it, as with everything it takes awhile to get started and even longer to master. Good luck and don't give up

In some difficult situation Meditation is very helpful. And i think, it is a most popular technique for working with the mind. Meditation will turn down the volume of thoughts in your mind. Very simple meditation is like resting. When you work your body hard you need to take a break.
You have put the writer in a difficult situation.
When you go to the doctor, you go to the doctor because you have some form of illness and the doctor prescribes you the medicine. Your problem is, that you are imagining that your back is hurting you and that you are in deep pain, but no doctor can help you because there is no pain - it is only your imagination.
We tend to be very credible creatures, question everything. Before you try and find medicine for your illness first ask yourself "who is it that is experiencing the anxiety?", "who is it that has had painful childhood experiences", keep questioning everything, every answer question it, every response question.
First, find WHO is experiencing the illness, then come ask for help.
Really mediation is very good technique to control mind and building self confidence. But we should be clear about object of meditation and destination. Radhanath Swami | Celibate monks in Radhanath Swami's Radhagopinath Ashram
