Default Re: What tools do you use in meditation?

    I use hypnosis and NLP.

I use my awareness and intelligence.

I don't believe anything that others tell me. I like to pull techniques apart and learn what really gets the technique to work.

I write my own scripture as i go along.

    Kind regards

I use any tools I can get my hands on. Actually, anything that is creative, gentle and easy to use appeals to me. I use books mostly because they are the most easily available and usually provide a lot of ideas so that you can use them over a long period of time. I also meditate in Nature. My photography of nature is a kind of meditation, as is gardening and sitting, just watching nature. I also like books by Chopra and Tolle and others that you can just open to any page, read and meditate on it. Tai chi is meditation in motion, and I do a fair bit of it each day.

I do simple meditations such as So Hum Mantra and Smiling Buddha, but for the tools I only use candle for my Trataka meditation.

    Hello,

Yoga mat or cushions should be a matter of personal choice. It is easier if you are not distracted by an uncomfortable body position so if these things do it for you then thats good. I personally sit upright on a straight backed dining chair.

I have used crystals in the past but I don't make a habit of it. Meditating with a single quartz point or a quartz sphere somewhere in your aura can be interesting as can placing gem stones on your chakra points. I have had some very cleansing experiences with this.

Music can be a distraction to some and a help to others depending on the type of meditation you are doing. A guided meditation with music can be an easy way to get into that space but simply listening to some calming new age music or maybe some Japanese flute music (so called zen music) can also be quite helpful. I myself enjoy meditating with music but at the moment I tend to meditate in the mornings in silence.

Hi, I would like to learn more about meditating with crystals. I had an introduction to crystals in the Spirituality course I attended. I bought 2 small pyramids- one quartz and one amethyst. I also have two other pieces of quartz with a pointy end. One is from Tibet. I would like some ideas on how to meditate with them. Do you need to cleanse them after each use?(I do know how to do that in sunlight and moonlight). I have seen some spheres I like too. I have always meditated but am learning some new types of meditation. This morning, I did a chakra meditation using sounds. I found it in a local magazine called Heart and Soul. It is used for aligning your chakras. It was good. Thanks for your post.

    Hello Waterlilly,

There are lots of different meditations you can do using crystals and stones... too many to mention here so here are just a few ideas for you.

First you need to clean your crystals before each meditation (and after too if you feel they need it).
You can do this by simply holding them under running cold water for a short while, as you are doing this try to empty your mind and just imagine a clear, clean white light going into the crystal.

Here are some suggestions as to how you can meditate with crystals:

Probably the easiest method is to simply hold the crystal in the palm of your hand and meditate as usual, you will probably notice some subtle change in your meditation, beware though that you do not spend all of the time looking for the effect that the crystal might be having and instead try to forget that you have it there.

Another way to meditate is to simply place the crystal of stone under your chair or under your cushion. This is more effective if it is a large or powerful piece that you are using. Once again don't spend the meditation wondering what effect the crystal is having.

Crystal gazing can also be very powerful, it works particularly well with quartz crystal spheres. You place a crystal in front of you and look into the crystal for a while, trying not to focus on the inside but instead on all of the outside edges as if you were using your peripheral vision. After a while, out of the corner of your eyes you will notice a kind of twinkling around the outer edges, just allow this light to flow into you as you meditate with your eyes open. Do not try to look at this twinkling light or it will go away, instead simply allow it to flow into you.

In Judy Hall's Crystal Bible she suggests that you can 'get to know' your crystals or stones by meditating with them. You start the meditation as before by staring into the crystal. You examine it in every little detail, you look deep inside it and allow yourself to get lost inside it. Then when you have been doing this for a while you can close your eyes and just soak up the energy of the crystal as you begin to meditate. You might even receive messages from the crystal in the form of unexpected thoughts or visions.

FInally, an extremely powerful way to meditate with crystals is to use them in conjunction with music. I have a channeled chakra healing CD but it will work with most new age music especially made for relaxation. Just having the crystal placed somewhere in your auric field you will find that the vibration of the music will be subtly amplified at much higher frequencies by the crystal and you will be able to experience both the music and the energy of the crystal lot more intensely. Be careful how you use this method because if you are listening to strident music or music with negative energy then this will of course be amplified providing an uncomfortable experience.

Most of these Crystal meditations are not the typical 'empty your mind' type mediations but they can be just as useful in so far as they will stop the constant mental chit chat that we all get and it will calm you both mentally physically and psychically all helping you to get into that place of meditation.

These are just a few techniques you could use... I have an extended version of this explanation on my blog if you are interested. Crystal Meditation

    Dear Andy.
Thanks for the info. It is great info for a beginner of crystals like me. I have heard of the Crystal Bible and will try and find one at a good price. Thank you for taking the time to give me this wealth of information. I meditate an enormous amount each day and it is really a wonderful journey. I will go and have a look at your blog as well. Have a joyous day!
