    Default What is going on?

    Hello,
I am very new to meditation and I need some guidance.
I started a little over a week ago when I bought a bed of nails to lay on. Since I was going to be in one spot for a long tome I decided I would try meditation, I have results however it is hard for me to find answers with how I am doing it, and what I feel.

Of course I am lying on my back on a bed of nails, a acupuncture mat, and I put on meditation music and focus on my breathing and clearing my head with my eyes closed.
My arms start to feel really heavy, thick, or even they are part of the floor. I am fine with this though there is no scariness at all. Then I feel like my "spirit" is enlarging, I am aware of my body but I feel like I am beyond it, hard to explain, the closest I can come to is I felt this right before I went under for a operation when I was a kid. That last phase is hard to hold on to but I am getting better every day. I feel at peace during this whole process and relaxed when I bring my self back.

My question are, is this normal. What is this called, pretty much what is happening. I have no idea as I am doing this with no background, or research.
I do find it kind of addicting though, I feel so renewed or "clean" after.
    Thanks for your time

I am new to this bed of nails you speak of. I have heard of Yoga in meditation, walking and talking meditation, imagery and candle meditation but I have never heard of meditation on a bed of nails. Why would anyone lay on nails? Is it the same as runing through hot coals I see people do?

Bed of Nails is actually just a acupunture Mat, feels really good. Think of a small yoga matt with golf shoe spikes facing up. It increases blood flow to the back. I actually found some people at work that meditate and I was able to answer my question above. The mat really just helpped me focus on something, hence making it easier to clear my mind.
