Default Finding the Right Time to Meditate

The great thing about meditation is that it doesn’t really take all that much time. As soon as you pick up the basics, you can begin by practicing for five or ten minutes each day. You may want to sandwich a little quiet time between brushing your teeth and taking a shower. Or if you’re an early bird, you can enjoy the precious moments of stillness before the rest of the family wakes up.
Whatever time slot works best for you, the most important thing is to meditate regularly — every day if possible, give or take a day here or there. The reason for this recommendation is not to turn you into an automaton, but rather to give you an opportunity to enjoy the wonderful benefits of meditation, such as reduced stress and greater focus.

The best time for you to meditate is the time that you will do it! It is the time that works best in your schedule. It is the time that is easiest for you. If you choose a time that is convenient for your lifestyle, you will find the experience more appealing and more natural.

With the hectic pace and demands of modern life, many people feel stressed and over-worked. It often feels like there is just not enough time in the day to get everything done. Our stress and tiredness make us unhappy, impatient and frustrated. It can even affect our health. We are often so busy we feel there is no time to stop and meditate! But meditation actually gives you more time by making your mind calmer and more focused. A simple ten or fifteen minute breathing meditation as explained below can help you to overcome your stress and find some inner peace and balance.
Meditation can also help us to understand our own mind. We can learn how to transform our mind from negative to positive, from disturbed to peaceful, from unhappy to happy. Overcoming negative minds and cultivating constructive thoughts is the purpose of the transforming meditations found in the Buddhist tradition. This is a profound spiritual practice you can enjoy throughout the day, not just while seated in meditation.

On this website you can learn the basics of Buddhist meditation. A few books are mentioned that will help you to deepen your understanding if you wish to explore further. Anyone can benefit from the meditations given here, Buddhist or not. We hope that you find this website useful and that you learn to enjoy the inner peace that comes from meditation.

I rather enjoy my meditation in the morning before the house wakes up. I am able to quietly meditate without distractions from the hustle of getting ready for the day. When I have to hit the ground running because I overslept and wasn't able to get in my meditation time, I feel something isn't right and usually it's difficult to get back on track once the day starts. Sometimes I am able to fix this by taking a brief time and meditate the way I would in the morning provided I get that opportunity. Sometimes I just never get to it and I know when I haven't. I grow restless, irritable and I don't concentrate as well.
